Does Your Kid Need Math Help?

It’s not easy for a parent to watch their child struggle with their math work. When your kid comes in from school with a frown on their face and their head hung low, you know it’s time to step in. As a parent, there are so many awesome ways to provide math help for your children. From hiring a tutor to going through problems with them yourselves, there are so many ways you can give your child great math help for kids - and it can still be fun!

There are so many different areas your child may need help with; from homework help to in-class support, there are many options to provide your child with. Above all else you may want to ask yourself: Does your kid need math help?

Below are some of the signs of a child who needs help with their math, and some of the best ways to help them!

Do you find your child is doing better in other subjects than in their math class? This can be a big sign that they need math help, and math help specifically. Math isn’t always the easiest subject for kids, and if they are missing major milestones in the subject, this is a big signifier they need math help. For instance, a middle school student should be learning basic level algebra. If your child is still struggling with fractions, it may be time for math help!

Does your child struggle with math recall and remembering what they did in math class that day? Memory is closely linked to remembering concepts and numbers. If your child is struggling with the comprehension of their math work, they may also be struggling with retention. Providing your child with math help may allow those difficult solutions to finally stick with them.

The absence of math in their daily tasks can demonstrate a lack of math understanding. This can include reading clocks or even counting change after paying with cash. This can come from gaps in their in-class math instruction, or from something that can be a direct result of not enough math help. This can also demonstrate difficulty with mental math; many of the skills included in mental math are strengthened every year in math class - it may just take one or two additional lessons for your child to start to understand!

There are many ways to provide math help for kids! As a parent, you are able to provide help yourself. Discussing the options with your child’s teacher(s) will provide you with the support you need to help your kids at home. The internet has awesome math help resources, ranging from online math activities to Youtube videos.

A great way to help your kids is to provide them with a math tutor! Math tutors are specially trained to fill in the gaps your child faces with their math instruction, and know the curriculum really well to provide quick and acute math help. There are so many awesome ways to help your kids, all it takes is a little time and research!
